Wow, today was a big day. I must be thankful that my good friend David Coindreau took his camera to the lab so we could take pictures of our project, but we didn’t expect of running into some interesting mishaps during class.
Some previous incident in which NOx gases were being released. (No biggie)
Now, the really interesting part occurred here. In another project, which was trying to prepare some mint flavorizer, was using ciclohexane to isolate the flavorizer from their mixture. The bad thing was that they were also heating the whole thing, but they didn’t expect a leak was taking place at one of the fittings. When one of the team members moved the burner out of place, she let loose the following scenario:
Fire!! Fire!! Fire!!!
David, who was really close to the fire, pulled out a supreme job as a news reporter, for he was the only one running to take a picture while everyone ran away,… fearing for an explosion. Sergio, an employee at the lab did some quick thinking and he put out the fire with the fire extinguisher.
After the fire…
The good thing was that not everything was lost, and everyone got back to finishing their work.

(The ciclohexane had escaped through a fitting which probably wasn’t properly ‘sealed’ with vaseline).

That coulda been naaaasty. :-
Nothing like a little excitement for your day, eh?
btw…i like how your page changes color.
*oohs and aaahhhs*

thanks Kat for the compliment. If you’d like, I can show you where I got the template from.

Holy cow!! What an exciting day! Sheesh! Cool that your friend had a camera to capture the events, huh?
And I agree, your blog changing colors is way cool.
xoxo
Damn, that looks like a LOT of fun. It’s very reminscent of my days in Freshman Chemistry lab — we had the other groups do the work while we tried desperately to blow stuff up. That was a LOT of fun.
Excitement, excitement, excitement!!
Thanks GW! I’m glad you guys like the color changing layout! And yep, this was the 2nd time we took the camera to the lab. From now on, we won’t miss a day in the lab without cameras.
LOL Russ, I hope you tried to blow things up WITH safety goggles on and appropiate safety measures taken…
